Will the town please spring for a selectboard exorcism?

After reading Ken Picard's Seven Days article on Richmond's very own selectboard zealot, Mary Houle, I decided it was time again to address her directly:

Mary hun, if you don't want to be "painted as the town SOB," stop acting like one. It's a pretty simple concept. You're a smart cookie, so I'm sure you can wrap your head around it. You are guided by a deeply perverted vision of localism, manifesting in your repeat behavior of stepping out, and often over your selectboard peers to deliver messages of moral sanctimony to the community. Everyone is tired of hearing it.

You eschew the ethical guidelines of your post and in the process, alienate the community you claim to represent. You "expect honest answers," yet you are perhaps the most adept in avoiding accountability and an honest process. In your erratic rants on taxpayer dollars, budget tightening and sparing expense, you seem to have deliberately avoided owning the huge costs you have levied against the Richmond taxpayer. Some champion you are! How much time and resource have we wasted on your manic quest to ruin the reputation of our former town administrator? How is it that months after his departure you can't seem to let it go? Everyone observing this situation from the outside recognizes how absolutely dysfunctional your process is. You are fevered, and a classic villain to be sure.

As someone who refers to her peers as "Little Hitler, Marxist and crybaby," I find it beyond amusing that you can't even see the irony in your "cry wolf" response to my weblog. Cyberbullying? No darling, it's called punditry. You are an elected public official, no? Keep doing what you do-rattle your saber, raise your hackles; turn under the full moon. I'll be calling a spade a spade until the day I get buried by one. If you think the waning days of your tenure are going to be a smooth sail, think again.

  1. Hey Selectboard, please publish the total amount spent on attorneys (plus Ron's extended vacation pay) fighting Ghoule's misguided battles (leading the way on her high and mighty moral horse - just don't walk behind it, you may step in something foul). Saving the taxpayer's money fer sure, eh? As far as her other battle for property rights- its OK to do what she wants on her property (including apparent health code violations in the rental unit) but she just can't help but stick her nose in Community Market's doings...Can you spell hypocrisy?

  2. Mary Houle needs to get out of Richmond's business immediately. Immediately. The Selectboard, everything. Sure, she'll read this and think to herself, in her own pleasant manner, "No way. Forget it. Not a chance. Screw them. Not Happening." I waited and waited to see how this played out. At the large meeting up at the school, the one meeting when she knew she'd be the center of attention with an audience of townspeople focused on her behavior, she couldn't even seem to control herself. Is that how she always acts? Is that what people admire about her and respect? She may get things done, but so does a bull in a china shop. It gets done, but it's not pretty. Do we think that's the best Richmond has to offer? Some may say, "this person just doesn't know her." Well, I know that anyone with a little common sense and smidgeon of humility might at least try to present themselves in a professional manner at the one meeting packed with town residents. She couldn't do it. It almost looked like she knew she should conduct herself in a better manner but she just could not control herself. Like she was struggling with her hardwired nature. No, I don't know her. But I now have no doubt that the horror stories I've heard could very well be true. And that's not the type of person I want representing me or the town I live in. If anyone thinks we have to put up with her type of behavior in trade for having someone who gets so much done for the town, they are very mistaken. We have a lot of experienced, professional, and caring people who could easily step in and do as well, probably better, and do it with a smile and with the admiration of anyone they interact with. We're settling and we don't need to. Mary should have re-signed. That's a given. But she's not wise enough to know when it's time to go, so we'll need to help her out the door. Wasn't the board tasked to come up with a policy on how and when a selectboard member could be removed from the board? I'd bet at least 4 of them could come up with something by now, over the howls and screams of the one other member. Will I ever vote for Mary Houle for anything? Do I want her to serve out her time on the board? Not a chance. Forget it. Not happening. DENIED.

  3. I think Mary should trot on down to the Lucky Spot variety and buy herself a forty. She just needs to chill out a bit. Maybe someone could invite her to a party and teach her how to take a bong hit. Obviously she needs some friends and to have a good time. Also, it would be nice for her to try some good Richmond bud. Then maybe she would want to decriminalize marijuana etc. and she would be a good voice for that movement. Mary Houle could be a very powerful voice for change...Everyone deserves a second chance. 3 cheers to self reinvention

  4. Perhaps Mary has had it with trying to be the voice of reason and being disrespected. Uncovering govermental corruption, however slight it is, is a lonely path. Its taken the SB 2.5 yrs to construct a monument for a fallen soldier b/c the whole board was slackin, the bridge closure could have been avoided, had Ron been paying more attention to the obvious future instead of...well we all know what he was paying attention to...If you can tell me how one item from above, 'factually now', that Mary caused all by her lonesome...then maybe i'll rethink it. So..Poor Rodjenski. Dan where were you when he needed 400 signatures?

  5. I just need to say that I find it unconscionable that Adam's memory is being exploited by political opportunists. It is an absolute disgrace and you should be ashamed.

  6. Well....Talk to your SB my man! Ahh yes, pretty little round church, we dont want it to look like a graveyard...You can ask Jon Kart about that comment Fact check the recordings...You want to hide behind Mary Houle and she is the big bad ghoule, well get your flippin blinders on and get educated on ALL the issues and not just the ones where you can hide behind the masses. Oh and respectfully, no one is exploiting his memory, merely pointing out a FACT that the SB as a WHOLE screwed that one big time...Look in the paper...No other town takes that long to respect out fallen HERO's...

  7. Mary screwed the memorial thing up by approving it on her own and to hell with the necessary paperwork which would have been rubber stamped; should any type of memorial go up anywhere in town without proper permits just because Ghoule approves of it?

  8. Listen..Do you have the facts? Whether or not she did something, it doesnt take 2 years to erect this type of memorial...Nice try
